Paik AKA DJ Express began DJ'ing in 1995 as a freshman in high school.
Like most, he started off in his bedroom building his skills by
imitating his favorite DJ's.
He
was inspired by turntablist crews like the Beat Junkies and ISP,
but his love for the turntables ultimately began after watching
Omar Epps' role as a battle DJ in the movie Juice.
Having
been an aspiring breakdancer, he naturally began DJ'ing at local
b-boy sessions and battles in the Los Angeles area.
At
the age of 15, he was recruited by Sounds N Grooves Entertainment
(SNG) and became their youngest resident DJ quickly gaining exposure
in the Southern California club scene. He DJ'd at various clubs
and special events to generate revenue, but his true passion was
always in turntablism.
He
has since left SoCal due to a corporate relocation, but is still
rocking crowds regularly as the resident DJ at Karma Lounge in Nashville,
TN. Although he spins to a different crowd, he throws in occasional
doses of West Coast classics and scratching as a reminder of where
he's from.
A
West Coast DJ in the Dirty South? See for yourself at Karma Lounge
every Friday and Saturday night!
